On Wednesday, 30 July, the final transfer and replicability workshop of the LIFE ADAPT-ALEPPO project was held, organised by the Region of Murcia with support from the project coordinator, Ingeniería del Entorno Natural.

The event took place in person at the auditorium of the Regional Ministry of Environment, Universities, Research and the Mar Menor, located on San Cristóbal Street in Murcia.

The full video of the presentations delivered throughout the day can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/ZxenTbP2ZLs

During the workshop, titled “Preparing Murcian pine forests for the future: adaptive forest management tools developed under the LIFE ADAPT-ALEPPO project”, Miguel Chamón presented the six technical guides produced by the project. These cover modelling and remote sensing tools, assisted migration, eco-hydrological silviculture, structural and floristic diversification, post-fire regeneration, and the assessment of adaptive management needs in light of climate change.

These guides are designed for use by forest managers and professionals across Mediterranean regions. In addition, the catalogue of adaptation costs was presented, providing reference prices for services and works related to Aleppo pine forest management.

Esteban Jordán also presented two innovative cartographic viewers:

  • A viewer to identify Aleppo pine habitat suitability under current and future climate scenarios, supporting medium- and long-term planning.
  • A viewer for early detection of forest decline processes, a key tool for prioritising technical and financial resources towards areas with the greatest need and likelihood of successful adaptation.

All participants, forest management specialists, received a LIFE project outreach kit and shared experiences at a networking coffee organised by the Region of Murcia.

They also had the chance to explore more details of the project’s work through a travelling exhibition in the Ministry’s lobby.
